Peppermint Power

As I enter a new role in recruiting and a new year approaches, there is a lot to reflect on. If you know me personally, you know I never stop eating, so yep— I am reflecting on food. Particularly, snacks from all the college fairs or school visits I’ve attended…
There are levels to this.
Level One- A water and a Nature’s Valley Granola Bar
Level Two- Candy bag and some school swag (coffee mug)
Level Three- Catered food or a Starbucks gift card
Wow! What an irrelevant opener, I have here. Even worse, I am the girl who takes the water bottles from the table of a school who didn’t show. Or if we are being served breakfast for an event, ya girl will snag some extra apples and oranges for mi casa!
So to the point… many times in our goody-bags, no matter the level the school serves us, WE GET MINTS. Sometimes they are soft mints, traditional peppermints, the lifesaver kind(green or blue bag) or we may even get a York peppermint patty. Makes sense to me, we are talking to students and families day in and day out, that breath needs to be fresh!
But here’s the dilemma. If the contents of the bag have some snickers, milky-ways, perhaps a stack of crackers or little gummy pack in it, then they will lose some, if not all flavoring. No matter the mint, no matter the wrapping/packaging, the peppermint flavor always overwhelms.
Have you guessed where I am going yet?
I hope so! As Christians, we need to be overwhelming with flavor! Especially this season.
When you are eating with your dysfunctional family it is okay to be salty…as long as you are also light! (puny Christian humor)
Matthew 5:13-16
“You are the salt of the earth…14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Seriously, you may not have been able to buy a gift for every angel tree or church ministry. Maybe you aren’t even able to buy the types of gifts you wanted to get your loved ones, but that’s not what the season is about, and I know Jesus is the reason for this season is stated so often, it’s redundant. But He is.
Make this Christmas and New Year about letting his sticky, fresh, long-lasting, breath-taking Holy Spirit shine through you and impress on another!
I won’t tell you how because all you have to do is let Him use you. No need for me to list examples, or offer a #HolidayChallenge like my last post. Instead, when you are in the midst of others at work or at home, see how you can share the aroma of God’s love! Use some peppermint power in Jesus Name!
